Pleasure, Purpose and Peace in Turbulent Times

Does the world sometimes feel dark, scary, and turbulent?  In spite of that (or because of that!), I’d love to share with you some of the best ideas and practices on how to increase your happiness and career success.

1. Happiness through writing
In almost all of my workshops, I ask participants to take a few minutes to write out answers to important questions about their personal and professional lives. People often think, write, share with another, discuss in the group, write out an action plan and then commit to their plan in public. It’s very powerful! Learn more about the benefits of “Writing Your Way to Happiness.”

2. What type of meditation for you?
Many people recognize the huge mental and physical benefits of a mindfulness practice – including in the workplace. But how do you start? Here’s “How to Choose a Mindfulness Meditation.”

3. Forgiveness
We can all benefit from the difficult but important practice of forgiveness. (Not for the other’s person’s sake, but for your own!) We need to forgive at home. And we need to forgive at work.  I hope you find this article as touching as I do: “How the Vietnam War’s ‘Napalm Girl’ Found Love, Hope and Forgiveness – and Helps Others to Do the Same.”

4. My most popular blog post ever
You might be surprised by my “Confessions from a Stanford Business School 20-Year Reunion.

5. Highlights from a workshop
I recently conducted two sessions of my “Happiness Workshop: Create your Pleasure, Purpose and Peace” for a leading global pharmaceutical company on the East Coast. I was honored by the scientist who hired me, when she wrote “Jim’s Happiness Workshop not only taught us the many benefits of increasing our happiness levels, but he also shared simple, practical methods that we can use every day to achieve this goal.”

6. Inspiration
“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.”
